Interreligious dialogue is guided by the conviction that both respect for the stranger and learning together with and from each other are the basis for peaceful coexistence between religious communities. The departments for Christian-Jewish and Christian-Islamic dialogue maintain and promote the relations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany with Jewish and Islamic communities and organizations. They provide information and knowledge about Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Meetings with Jews and Muslims contribute to the development of dialogue skills and interreligious and intercultural sensitivity and competence.
The departments for Christian-Jewish and Christian-Islamic dialogue initiate, promote and accompany interreligious education and encounter projects. They cooperate with numerous institutions and organizations in and outside the church. They arrange contacts with Jewish and Muslim speakers and communities, advise on events and offer information and materials.
