Scholarship and volunteer programs – what we stand for

Connecting people Our volunteer programs make encounters and interactions possible, for getting to know each other and learning from one another. Teenagers and young adults experience different cultures and ways of everyday life, developing understanding for those who are different or unknown.

Taking a stand Volunteer programs bring young adults into contact with the major global issues of peace, justice and a world which is hospitable also for future generations. Insights into other cultural contexts provide new points of view on the challenges of the future. Actual encounters with people in other parts of the world stimulate volunteers’ own involvement at home for a lifestyle characterised by solidarity and for worldwide justice.

Living out faith For us, the mission means authenticity – by thinking about one’s own faith, living a credible lifestyle and respecting the beliefs of others. Through encountering the realities of life in other cultures, volunteers receive new impulses which impact on their own ideas and beliefs. Thus, they are able to grow in their faith as well as developing on a personal level.

Broadening horizons We are convinced that the global challenges of our time can only be mastered together and with a far-sightedness. The ability to see the world through others’ eyes is a prerequisite for this. Volunteer programs make this type of change of perspective possible, and all parties learn with and from one another. Intercultural exchange is an essential element and the basis of global learning and change.

Shaping the future We support young people through our volunteer program, as well as offering them the opportunity to obtain further qualifications. Homecomers receive advice and educational opportunities especially developed for them in order to train them as active members of our civil society. We support them in networking with other people interested in developmental politics or ecumenism and in contributing their creative potential to the church and to society.
